Scheduled Workshops & Events (listed in order of date)

 

Kayak Level 1

This is an introductory course in kayaking of all types. We'll go over strokes, rescues, and safety. Runs Thursday night 8-10pm in the pool. Just show up.

FEE: Free

 

Climbing Level 1

This is an introductory course held at the climbing wall or at a nearby crag. We'll go over knots, belaying and safety. Runs Wednesday night 6-9pm at the indoor climbing wall. Just show up.

Latin Dance

Salsa, Merenge, Bachata. Tuesday Evenings 6-8pm. November 11, 13, 18, and 20th. Bring a partner or not, we'll find you one! SOEI Sentry room.

Must be registered to attend. FREE to Northland community, $25 for non-members. REGISTER

 

Ice Safety Workshop

Do you enjoy ice fishing?  How about walking across the ice when the bay freezes?  If so, you should attend the Ice Fishing Safety Workshop, hosted by Northland’s American Fisheries Society student subunit. The workshop will be on Thursday, December 4th, in CSE169 starting at 10:30am.  The Ashland Fire Department will give a presentation about ice safety, including some specifics to Lake Superior. Budo Taijutsu

Is a traditional Japanese martial art. Click for video.

We'll start up again in January and meet every Monday and Wednesday 6pm-8pm in the Sigurd Olson Sentry room. Beginners always welcome. Wear comfortable clothing.

Toboggan building workshop

Build a traditional toboggan out of white ash. 6 participants maximum

Bike Repair and Maintenance

This workshop will take place over 5 sessions at Bay City Cycles in Ashland, where you will learn from a professional how to completely strip down, clean, repair, and maintain your bike. Carl Faber from Bay City Cycles is the instructor extraordinaire!

Begins February 3rd and goes 5 consecutive Tuesdays, 6-8pm

FEE: $45 10 students maximum enrollment. 20% off purchase of tools after completion of the workshop!

 

Snowshoe construction and lacing

Build traditional Ojibwa style laced snowshoes from white ash.

8 participants maximum

Pool Paddling Sessions

Paddle instruction and open paddling in the pool. Monday- Friday 8-10pm.

Cost: free to Northland College members. $1/session for community members with paddling card.

6pm-9pm Monday Thru Thursday.

Cost: free to Northland College members. $1/session for community members with climbing card.

 

Aikido

Tuesdays 7-8:30pm at "the aikido church" on the corner of 3rd street and 9th avenue west.

Join us in the Sigurd Olson Institute every Monday and Wednesday 7:30-8:30pm. Watchers welcome! See the groups website. Must have some experience rolling and falling to attend.

Weekly Bike Rides

Thursday-Leaves from the Sunshine Bike shop at 4:30pm

Come explore Ashlands rail/trail, ride to Prentice Park, watch the sunsets, meet new folks. Free.

To clarify, registration is first paid, first registered. You are not signed up until we have received payment. If for some reason the event is cancelled you will be reimbursed in full. You may cancel 14 days prior to event start for visiting programs and 7 days prior for internal programs for a full reimbursement. After this time period you may only be reimbursed if we or you find someone to fill your spot.
