Ed-Venture LOGO Contest
We're looking for artistic assistance! The Ed-Venture program (formerly Outdoor Pursuits) needs a new logo for T-Shirts, posters, web site, etc. Logo contest winner gets a $25 gift certificate to one of our events and a free T-shirt with your logo! Entries are due April 17th. The logo must follow the following guidelines.
-Must include text: Northland College, Ed-Venture Program
-should be simple enough to read text
-no more than 3 colors
-promote health and natural living through picture or symbolism
-be approximately 3"x4", but also simple enough to enlarge (solid colors/not shaded) or screen print
Self Defense Class
You need to have taken Budo Taijutsu or a similar martial arts class prior. Join us in the Sigurd Olson Institute every Monday and Wednesday 7:30-8:30pm. Watchers welcome!

Sustainability in the Outdoors - The series...
This series will address the idea of sustainability through a hands on approach to learning. Workshops will take place between 4pm-6pm, Wednesday nights in Mead 136, unless otherwise noted. Free unless otherwise noted.
Apr. 9- Shelter- Exploring shelter designs and making a shelter with minimal gear.
Apr 12 & 13- shelter continued. We'll take what we learned inside and go out for 2 days of primitive camping.
This is a way to put into action all we learned this semester. Anyone is welcome to come, if you came to the workshops or not. We will be doing various woodland activities, shelter building, cordage making basket making. We will sleep out in our shelters and return on Sunday. All food is provided.
Rock Climbing Anchor Building Workshop
Learn to climb safely by building good anchors. Though some climbing may happen the main focus of this workshop is anchor building.
April 11, 12 & 13
$35 covers food, camping, instruction, travel and climbing gear.
Black River Falls Most Beautiful Hike of Your LIFE
In the spring many signs of life abound; trees are budding, flowers are blooming, american red squirrels are chattering, and Black River Falls is really really ridiculously good looking! Come on out, its the weekend before finals and you need some nature. We'll be going out from 9 to 5, hiking around, eating some lunch, and chillaxing. You can also ask me questions in person, though I might never forgive you.

Paddle Carving
Carve your own kayak or canoe paddle from green wood.
May 5 & 6th. 9am-5pm each day
$10 covers all instruction and materials.
Canoe Poling Class
May 17th and 18th
a canoe poling class on the White river. We will pole on Sat., camp at the Maxwell Prop. and pole more on Sunday. Canoe poling is the traditional way, and usually the only way, to safely transport your boat and yourself up and down moving rivers without playing plinko with the rocks.
Copper riveting and leatherwork
We are going to be learning about the Bronze Age technology of copper riveting and making either an axe or knife sheath or anything else you have around that needs repair, i.e. a belt, tump strap, Viking war ship. We will provide leather if you need it, enough to fit a good size axe head, or feel free to bring your own materials.
Cost: $5 for materials

Sea Kayak Instructor Certification CHANGED see below
This ACA Coastal kayak instructor training & exam is for those who are interested in an intensive workshop in instructor level sea kayak skills. Great for bringing your skills to the next level, and for those interested in guiding & teaching paddling courses. You can take just the development workshop or complete the two part certification process;

To clarify, registration is first paid, first registered. You are not signed up until we have received payment. If for some reason the event is cancelled you will be reimbursed in full. You may also cancel within 1 week (7 days) for a full reimbursement. After this time period you may only be reimbursed if we or you find someone to fill your spot.
