The Outdoor Education Program offers a required Outdoor Education Core, plus four academic majors and two minors.  They are Adventure Education, Therapeutic and Universal Design, Natural History, and Native American Studies/Outdoor Education, with minors in Outdoor Education and Adventure Education.  These courses of study expose students to the following aspects of the field of Outdoor Education: leadership and management issues, risk management, program design, educational philosophy, personal growth, communication, wilderness skills, block semester programs, and a senior level capstone experience.  By completing an Outdoor Education major, students are empowered to establish and maintain a relationship with nature.  The program advocates community and environmental justice and promotes a stewardship philosophy toward the land, water, and living systems on this planet.  The diverse faculty has a commitment to academic excellence, interdisciplinary programs, and to the pedagogies of environmental education, experiential education, service learning, reflection, and oral tradition.  Finally, the program integrates Outdoor Education with an environmental liberal arts curriculum and the overall mission of Northland College.
