My name is Kris Williams and I am the Program Director of a non-profit outdoor program called Adventures Without Limits in Forest Grove Oregon.  Every year I have 3-4 internships available during the winter and summer months, and that range in length from 10-16 weeks. I am writing you today with the hope that one or more of your students might be interested in coming to Adventures Without Limits for an internship for the summer of 2008.

I believe that our program can offer your students a unique opportunity to develop their skills as outdoor leaders because we serve a variety of populations and provide a wide range activities.  Our participants come to the program as individuals, or as a group and include at-risk kids, homeless youth, individuals with physical and developmental disabilities, and are from 5-75 in age.  Our activities include rafting, canoeing, sea-kayaking, indoor and outdoor rock climbing, backpacking, snowshoeing, cross country, snow camping, and recumbent biking.

I have attached a document that gives a brief description of Adventures Without Limits and of the internship position, as well as minimum qualifications and benefits.  If you, or any of your students, have any questions about the program or the internship feel free to call or write me.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from someone at your University.

Four Paid Internships with Gateway Canyons

View Details

We currently have internship programs set up with Metropolitan State College of Denver, Red Rocks Community College, and University of Northern Colorado.  We are eager to extend this program to out of state colleges.  I have attached our Internship flyer for you to review and possibly share with your students.

We are starting our internship program with 4 paid positions available per semester.  Housing is included.  Gateway Canyons is a destination resort that is being developed by the founder and owner of the Discovery Channel.  All of our activities are learning based.  We would be able to offer students experience in a wide variety of guiding activities including climbing, rafting, kayaking, Jeeping, ATVing, archery, hiking, mountain biking, and many more.  The internship would also include 1 week of tamarisk removal with the Nature Conservancy.  Each student would also be assigned their own project that they would manage and see it through to completion.  This would include construction of a rafting take-out or campsite construction.

We are still a developing resort so students would learn first hand how to build infrastructure, designing and implementing new policies and procedures, and how to start a program from the grown up.

Thank you so much for your consideration.
