Northland College Outdoor Education Professor Clayton Russell Earns the Aldo Leopold Award On October 29th., 2004 the Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education announced their annual slate of award winners during their annual conference held at the Telemark Resort near Cable, WI. The Association's most prestigious award, the Aldo Leopold Award, was presented to Northland College Associate Professor of Environmental Education and Outdoor Education, Clayton Russell, for long term exemplary service to the Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education and the field of Environmental Education. For 15 years Clayton has been an active voice for Environmental Education in the Lake Superior region and across Wisconsin. In addition to providing Northland College students with many opportunities for excellence, he has involved younger students by initiating a series of High School Environmental Leadership conferences and the binational Lake Superior Youth Symposium. He used Wisconsin Environmental Education Board funds to coordinate a North Country school forest conference and Eisenhower Math and Science program funds to bring teachers together with Ojibwe elders in order to better infuse the Ojibwe world view into the school science curriculum. He has been an active member of Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education, serving 2 terms on the board of directors and chairing the awards committee.
