Jon Wartes' Guidelines for Using Multiple Sweeps with Wide Spacing When Grid Searching
www.northland.edu/oe

·   Don’t use the same team to re-search the same grid.  This is boring and it contributes to searcher burnout.  Put transport logistics in place to rotate teams.

·   Subsequent sweeps should pass through the grids from different directions to increase clue detection.

·   Subjects of practice searches reported that in 56% of the cases, searchers would have seen them if they had looked back.

·   Searchers should work in teams of 3, running parallel courses.  They should run compass center with roving flankers.

·   Educate you searchers on the effectiveness of non-thorough methods to produce confidence and enthusiasm for the technique.

·   Grids must be well marked and clearly identified
