Community & Wolf Education Program Director
Overview: The North Lakeland Discovery Center has an immediate opening for a full-time Program Director. This position requires a highly organized and visionary individual to develop and implement the Center’s community education and wolf education programs. The Program Director leads Discovery Center staff, volunteers and program committee to develop and promote an extensive and diverse range of classes, programs and outreach activities to advance the Center’s mission. The Program Director reports directly to the Executive Director.
General Information: Located in Manitowish Waters, WI, The Discovery Center is a community-based environmental education center, situated on a 66 acre site among scenic forestland and wilderness lakes. The campus is close to the Manitowish River.
Mission: To promote stewardship of natural and cultural resources in the Lakeland area. Core values include a belief that the acquisition of knowledge and skills is a life-long undertaking. Through various means including recreation, discussion, display, research and field study, the Discovery Center offers a diversity of experiential learning opportunities.
Nature of Work: The Program Director is responsible for the planning, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of all Discovery Center community education and recreation activities and all activities of the Timber Wolf Alliance. The position is responsible for the delivery of various naturalist activities, and the satisfactory completion of required program-related administrative functions including program staff scheduling, public relations; supervision of a summer intern, grant writing; and budget development and management.
Qualifications REQUIRED: • Appropriate Bachelors Degree with five years relevant experience in a related field • Previous experience developing and implementing education programs. • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications: PREFERRED • Previous experience teaching both adults and children; • A specific interest in wolf education; • Experience developing and managing budgets; • Experience working with, motivating and supporting volunteers; • Previous supervisory experience.
Salary: Negotiable – commensurate with experience. After a qualifying period, the Discovery Center offers an employment package that includes paid vacation, health and dental insurance.
