Adventures Without Limits is a non-profit outdoor program whose mission is to empower people of all abilities through quality outdoor adventures.  Our goal is to offer programs that inspire personal growth, instill confidence, develop peer relationships, and enhance awareness of the natural environment.  Our adventures include hiking, canoeing, sea kayaking, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, biking, and backpacking.  AWL is based in Forest Grove, Oregon, approximately 25 miles west of Portland; most trips are conducted on the Oregon Coast, Mt. Hood, the Willamette Valley and Columbia River Gorge.

 

Assistant Program Leaders can gain practical experience in a variety of areas including: 1) facilitating/leading adventure-based programs, 2) grant writing, 3) program development, 4) fundraising events, 5) marketing, and 6) recreation administration.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

·         Serving as a full-time staff member for 10-12 weeks

·         Gaining a working knowledge of AWL’s mission, goals and policies

·         Working with the Program Director in planning and implementation of outdoor adventures

·         Participating in the administration of AWL programs

·         Working independently on a project that will enhance AWL

·         Assisting the Outreach and Development Director with fundraising, marketing and/or grant writing

·         Serving as an Assistant Trip Leader for AWL activities

·         Assisting in a volunteer training clinic

·         Supporting people with disabilities who are involved in our adventure programs

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·         Enrolled in (or recent graduate of) college program consisting of outdoor education, outdoor recreation, therapeutic recreation, environmental education, occupational therapy, physical therapy or related field

·         Dedication to working with diverse populations

·         Significant outdoor experience in at least two of the following:  hiking, canoeing, whitewater rafting, sea-kayaking,

cross-country skiing, or rock-climbing

·         Certification in First Aid and CPR

·         Clean driving record

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·         Experience working with individuals with disabilities

·         Wilderness First Responder or EMT certification

·         Lifeguard Training

·         Whitewater guiding experience and Swiftwater Rescue Training

 

BENEFITS

$50 stipend per week with housing (available only in summer for ten weeks), or $100 a week without housing .  Other benefits include instructor training in various outdoor activities, disability awareness training, flexible schedule, pro purchase deals on gear and clothing, and a fantastic work experience
