While the Adventure Education Minor is primarily intended to be combined with the Physical Education Teaching Major, it can be paired with any Northland major.  For example, a student might combine a Business Major with the Adventure Education Minor in preparation for establishing her/his own Outdoor Education Program.  Other possible combinations include an Adventure Education Minor with Environmental Education, Natural Resources, or Biology

When combined with the Physical Education Teaching Major, the Adventure Education Minor is designed to address the growing trend to include Adventure Education activities within the public school Physical Education curriculum in order to broaden the options available for lifetime physical activity, foster personal growth, and help to improve interpersonal communication skills.  As in the Adventure Education Major, students develop a broad range of outdoor technical skills and experiential teaching strategies; a strong background in risk management and environmental ethics; and a variety of soft, hard, and meta outdoor leadership skills.

Note:     Northland students who enrolled prior to fall, 2006 may take the Adventure Education Minor, provided they petition Academic Council to change catalogs to the 2006-2008 edition.  This change will result in a conversion of all programs to the new catalog for that student.  Students should check for changes to their programs of study between the old and the new catalogs prior to processing the paperwork.
