Edie Bristol Visual Art Scholarship

Purpose

The Edie Bristol Visual Art Scholarship was created to assist incoming students with established financial need in their pursuit of a visual arts degree at Northland College. This scholarship is renewable for #1000-$1500 annually dependent on availability of funds and meeting all continuing eligibility requirements.

Eligibility

Admitted first year students and transfers intending to pursue a major in the visual arts are eligible and encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to freshmen and those with demonstrated financial need based upon information supplied to the Financial Aid Office on the FAFSA.

The portfolio should include 8-15 works of art produced solely by the applicant. This could be in the form of any of the following: 35mm slides, or digital images on CD in Macintosh compatible format. Original artwork may be submitted by special arrangement with the coordinator of the Art Program.

Process

There are three components to the application process; a portfolio of original art work, 1-3 letters of recommendation, and a written statement.

Portfolio

The portfolio should include 8-15 works of art produced soley by the applicant. This could be in the form of any of the following: 35mm slides, or digital images on CD in Macintosh compatible format. Original artwork may be submitted by special arrangement with the coordinator of the Art Program.

Letters of recommendation

The applicant should submit 1-3 letters of recommendation addressing the applicant's potential for success in a college art program. (For example, past art teachers)

Written Application

The Edie Bristol Visual Art Scholarship application form must be filled out completely.

Evaluation

The coordinator of the Art Program in consultation with other Art faculty will determine the recipient(s). All recipients of the Edie Bristol Visual Art Scholarship are required to write a letter of thanks to the Bristol family including some biographical information. Past letters are available to help write this letter.
